Meryem Aassid is an author, composer of Amazigh and international music. Born in November 1996, she joined the choir of the Royal Institute of Amazigh Culture (IRCAM) at the age of 7. When she was 17, she joined her first funk / rock music group, and in 2015 she created a duet with Moroccan professional pianist Houda Lakkaf, with whom she revived and modernized 20th century Amazigh songs. In 2017, she met Oussama Chtouki with whom she created the “Jazz’Amazigh” project.
The project is an artistic process that explores Amazigh music, mixing it with international music, especially jazz. The first album recorded is titled “Seyh A Tawenza”, “Empower yourself, you women!”, and includes songs in Tamazight and English.
The ACA will broadcast an exclusive in-person concert by Jazz‘Amazigh filmed at the American Language Center in Rabat.
