The American Cultural Association (ACA) is pleased to announce the 32nd All-ALC Conference, the largest gathering of English-language educators in Morocco. As the not-for-profit, bi-national parent organization of the American Language Centers (ALC) in Morocco, the ACA is dedicated to promoting English as a foreign language education. 

The 32nd All-ALC Conference provides an opportunity for English teachers, teacher trainers, EdTech developers and curriculum designers from Morocco and beyond to come together, learn from one another, and explore new ideas in the field of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) education.

This Year’s Theme

We cordially invite proposals from Morocco and beyond that align with this year’s conference theme:
Next-Gen TEFL: Adapt, Engage, Excel

As English language classrooms continue to evolve in response to rapid technological, social, and cognitive shifts, the field of TEFL will change as well. Next-Gen TEFL: Adapt, Engage, Excel invites practitioners to explore innovative, evidence-informed approaches that respond to the needs of today’s learners, most of whom are digital natives with diverse profiles, shorter attention spans, and increasingly complex social and emotional landscapes. At its core, our theme emphasizes forward-looking, practical innovation grounded in sound pedagogy.

Next-Gen TEFL is not just about technology. It’s about adapting pedagogy to new realities, engaging learners in more meaningful and interactive ways, and supporting those learners to achieve excellence that extends beyond test scores to real-world communicative competence.

Proposal Submission

We invite proposals for sessions of the following formats:

• Lightning Talks: A 3-minute talk within a 45-minute session in which 8-10 speakers pitch an idea/plant a seed/share food for thought to spark new conversations and collaborations (proposals should be for a single 3-minute talk).
• Presentations: 30-minute sessions relating to theory and practice
• Classroom Activity Shares: 30-minute sessions in which a classroom activity is demonstrated to a small group of attendees
• Workshops: 45-minute interactive sessions with audience participation
• Panels: 75-minute sessions in which 4 panelists present views on a predetermined topic. This year, we welcome proposals for the following topics: 1) TEFL in Ten; and 2) Media Literacy in an Age of Advertising and Misinformation.
• Poster Sessions: Visual displays of an area of research or theory and practice that will be displayed during coffee break
• Roundtable Discussions: Informal 45-minute sessions to share ideas and/or resources or to initiate or continue collaborative conversations on a predetermined topic.

Proposals must be accompanied by a 100-word abstract. For presentations, classroom activity shares, workshops, and panels, a short video is also required to support your proposal.

All proposals will be rated according to the following criteria:

1. The topic is important and appropriate to the conference theme and the audience.
2. The proposal/video are based on theory, research, and/or proven standards/methods that are relevant to the presentation.
3. The proposal and video clearly explain the topic and its significance and include learning outcomes that are relevant to EFL professionals.
4. The session type (workshop, presentation, lightning talk, poster, etc) is appropriate for the plan, goals, and delivery methods stated in the proposal. Appropriateness may be in terms of the amount of time available, or the fit with the type of session or method of presentation involved, among other considerations.

Panel 1: The Visible Curriculum
Realigning Objectives, Materials, and Real-World Competence

Panel Description
A strong curriculum is more than a collection of textbooks, pacing guides, and lesson plans: it is a deliberate roadmap for developing learners over time. The visible curriculum is carefully planned and represents the knowledge, skills, and experiences that educators intentionally design to help students communicate effectively, think critically, and engage confidently with the world. As learner needs continue to evolve, curriculum design must remain purposeful, coherent, and adaptable. This panel explores how language centers can create curricula that balance linguistic development with the broader competencies students need for academic, professional, and personal success.

Questions this Panel will Address:
● How do we determine what language knowledge and communicative skills belong in today’s EFL curriculum?
● How can curriculum designers balance grammatical accuracy with fluency, critical thinking, and intercultural communication?
● Should curricula prioritize depth over breadth, and what topics or content are no longer as essential as they once were?
● How can curricula remain flexible enough to respond to changing learner needs while maintaining coherence across levels and programs?

Panel 2: The Hidden Curriculum
Shaping Values, Culture, and Character in the Next-Gen Classroom

Panel Description
No matter how carefully a curriculum is designed, it ultimately comes to life through the experiences of teachers and students. The hidden curriculum is what learners actually encounter in the classroom: the pace of instruction, teacher decisions, peer interactions, classroom culture, moments of curiosity, and unexpected opportunities for learning. Often, the most meaningful learning occurs not because it was planned or otherwise visible, but because skilled teachers recognize and respond to what is happening in the moment. This panel explores the dynamic relationship between curriculum design and classroom reality, asking how educators can preserve consistency while remaining responsive to the needs of real learners.

Questions this Panel will Address:
● Why do students often experience the same curriculum so differently, even within the same program?
● How much flexibility should teachers have to adapt lessons in response to student interests, questions, and learning needs?
● How can language centers encourage innovation in the classroom while maintaining consistency and quality across teachers?
● What can student feedback and classroom experiences teach us about improving the curriculum itself?
